Is Village Living Right For You?

There are lots of benefits to living in a city centre and some people love the hustle and bustle of city life. From having a range of shops, restaurants and bars on your doorstep to being within walking distance of transport links, the advantages of city living are undeniable. However, this way of life isn’t for everyone and for some, escaping to the country is the right choice.

With more people starting to work remotely, whether this is on a full-time or part-time basis, many are considering whether now is the right time to head out of the city. Moving to the countryside and making a new home for your family in a village can be beneficial and lots of people prefer village living to city living. Below we have explored some of the main reasons why a village is a sought-after location for a family home.

A peaceful way of life

When you live in the city, being disturbed by noise is an everyday occurrence and noise comes from absolutely everywhere. Living in a village couldn’t be more different and you can enjoy a quieter life when you leave the commotion of the city.

Rural areas are known for being peaceful and this is one of the most appealing features of a village. You won’t have to put up with traffic noise or construction noise when you embrace village life, and you will be able to get a good night’s sleep every night.

You and your family can enjoy everything the great outdoors has to offer too and you can spend your free time exploring the local area, going on long walks and cycling in the fresh air. Of course, since there is less traffic and congestion in villages, there is also less air pollution, so you can reap all of the health benefits associated with fresh air.

Get more for your money

Typically, property is more expensive in cities than it is in rural areas and you don’t tend to get much for your money when you live in a city centre. Whilst some villages are very desirable places to live, making them equally as expensive as cities, others can offer you brilliant value for money and you may be able to afford a bigger property in a village.

Almost all village houses, cottages and bungalows will have a garden too which isn’t the case in a city. You will be able to enjoy a private outdoor space with your family and friends, and finally have a BBQ area or a swimming pool, for example. Not to mention, you will probably have a private driveway too, so you won’t have to pay for parking as many do in city centres.

Lots of people find that they also spend less money when they live in a village. Although you may have to drive to get to a supermarket and this can result in you spending slightly more on fuel, not having as many amenities on your doorstep can prevent you from buying as much on a day-to-day basis. If you’re trying to save money, this is particularly useful.

Welcoming neighbours

Although thousands of people live in city centres and you will have lots of neighbours, city life can be quite isolating and many feel lonely. When you move to a village, you will be greeted by like-minded people who enjoy a peaceful life and you will be joining a close-knit community.

Your neighbours will welcome you to the village and whenever you bump into them, they will be happy to have a chat. You can turn to other villagers when you need advice or recommendations too and they will help you to settle into your new home.
